High-performance insulation is essential if you want to get the most out of your wood-fired oven, whether for closed oven cooking (bread, stews, etc.) or flame cooking (pizzas, grills, etc.).

Thanks to this comprehensive insulation kit, your oven benefits from excellent inertia and remains at a virtually constant temperature for several hours, despite low wood consumption.

Effective insulation also helps to extend the life of your oven by protecting it from thermal shock.

Top insulation

This is essential to retain the heat that accumulates in the refractory of the vault.

The top insulation in this kit consists of 2 layers of high-performance mineral fibre made in France.

Mineral fibre is a modern, high-performance insulation material with a thermal conductivity 10 times lower than that of sand. It is non-combustible and can withstand temperatures of up to 1200°C. This insulation is also biosoluble, meaning that it is exempt from any carcinogenic classification due to its low biological persistence.

Our kit contains the quantity required for your oven:

  • A 38 mm thick layer, density 96 kg/m3.
  • A 25 mm thick layer, density 64 kg/m3, with an aluminium vapour barrier on one side.
  • A roll of wide adhesive aluminium foil tape to secure the assembly.

Bottom insulation

Bottom insulation is often overlooked, even though it is essential for successful cooking! In particular, it allows you to keep the floor of your oven very hot without this heat being transmitted to the base of your oven.

The lower hearth is insulated with an 80 mm thick rigid base. This base comes in the form of thick slabs made from a mixture of vermiculite and molten cement.

All you have to do is lay this slab under the floor of the oven, without any special preparation or formwork.

Vermiculite is a natural insulating material closely related to the mica family. It is non-combustible, resistant to insects and rodents, and very stable over time.

Like all the materials used by Four Grand-Mère, the vermiculite and cement included in this kit are made in France.

💡Our insulations are custom Kits manufactured in our workshops, according to the size and specific characteristics of your wood-fired oven.

This manufacturing is particularly aimed at owners of a second-hand oven or those wishing to restore an old oven discovered in their home. A complete change of insulation is also recommended following infiltration, flooding, dismantling, etc.
