The furnaces in the Excellence range are traditional wood-fired furnaces, built by hand in our workshops in the Vosges. Made from refractory chamotte produced in France, they are also hand-lined with terracotta bricks.
The 8 cm thick firebrick hearth and vault are a real charm, guaranteeing powerful, even heat that will be gently released for over 30 hours.
The features of the Excellence range wood-fired ovens
Honour to the brick!
Known and appreciated for centuries for its ability to store heat before gently releasing it, clay brick is the benchmark material for making bread ovens.
To build a traditional oven in the Excellence range, we only use refractory bricks produced in France by a supplier who, like us, holds the EPV label (Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant).
After preparing the refractory chamotte structure of the oven, our bricklayers cut the bricks one by one, by hand, to line the hearth, the vault and the entrance arch.
Extremely well-designed and insulated ovens for long-lasting heat
The furnaces in the Excellence range all have an 8 cm thick brick roof and hearth. They are also perfectly insulated with a thick layer of high-temperature mineral wool for the roof, and a vermiculite slab for the hearth.
In the equipped version, our ovens also include a cast-iron outer door and a removable 2nd insulated door. As a result, the heat is retained very well during cooking in a closed oven… and even overnight before your gentle cooking in the morning.
Thanks to a thermometer built into the roof, you can monitor the temperature throughout cooking without opening the door, again for optimum heat retention.
Assembly
An oven to decorate, ready to assemble or already assembled?.
Easy to assemble and dismantle, all our wood-fired ovens are supplied in kit form, with the exception of La Carriole, which is delivered turnkey.
Oven kits Le Marmiton, Le Campagnard and Le Gourmet include just 3 to 5 pieces of refractory fireclay, which you can assemble quickly and without the need for brickwork, thanks to very detailed installation instructions. After that, you’re free to decorate your oven to your own taste, with a customised lining in plaster, brick, facing stone, etc.
Prefer an oven that’s already dressed? As an option, Four Grand-Mère also offers a range of ready-to-assemble covers for Le Marmiton, Le Campagnard and Le Gourmet ovens:
